Lutheran Church
The church forms an unity with the institutions built later (convent house, pastoral flat, Lutheran girl school and and Lyceum, high school, elementary school, bell tower). The separate church tower -which is visible from the Várkör - was built later in 1930. According to the regulations of the time, the gate of the church could not face the street, nor could a tower be erected next to it. The church still stands in a closed garden, hidden from the prying eyes. The building is typical of the age, called the granary church, where a wooden carpentry gallery increases the capacity. On its pulpit altar, the late Baroque altarpiece depicts the scene of the Communion. The organ was made by Jakab Jetter, a master from Kőszeg, in 1784. It has been remodeled several times. Over time a Lutheran center was established here, with pastoral homes, an elementary school, a small Gymnasium, a hospital, and association halls. The tower was erected in 1930 from public donations as the first element of the planned new church. The spectacular plan failed due to the economic crisis, only the new school building (today a kindergarten) was completed in its entirety.
