Tower of Heroes
One of the most characteristic buildings of Kőszeg was built on the site of the lower gate tower of the Castle of Kőszeg. It houses the City Museum.
In place of the Tower of Heroes stood the Lower Gate Tower, built in the 14th century and demolished in 1880. The old tower was the most important object of the city defense system and the downtown traffic, here lived the so-called tower musicians. The Tower of Heroes was built in 1932, on the 400th anniversary of the Turkish siege, on the site of the Árpádian gate, based on the plans of Flóris Opaterny in an eclectic style. Today the Kőszeg City Museum operates in it. From the top hall of the tower we can exit to the outer panoramic corridor.
