Savaria Museum
Do you want to see one of the most beautiful archeological gold jewels of Hungary, a Celtic gold tiara? Would you like to stand in the middle of a room that photorealistically depicts a busy Roman intersection? Wondering what is in common with Central Europe's largest collection of Pannonian ancient plants, the age of dualism and the folk art of County Vas? Then this is the place for you! Opened in 1908, the Palace of Culture in Szombathely, today's Savaria Museum is a treasure trove of millennia, and the institution's archaeological, ethnographic, historical and natural history collections hold about half a million objects. Among the archeological artefacts, the prehistoric village near Sé, the Celtic settlement of Velem or the ancient life of Savaria are also of international prominence. The permanent exhibition, which was renewed in 2010, and one of the most impressive Roman stone archives in the country, as well as exciting temporary exhibitions await for those who are interested.
