Forestry Forest School of the Styrian houses, Museum and Arboretum
Szombathelyi Erdészeti Zrt. established the forestry forest school in 2002 in the 250-year-old Styrian houses. Guided tours can be requested at the surrounding arboretum.
The Styrian houses were built for foresters invited to start professional forest management in the heart of the Mountains of Kőszeg in 1770, after the publication of Maria Theresa ’s Forest Order. The Forestry of Szombathely has established a forest school in one of the houses, and a Forestry Museum operates in the other. (It can be visited by prior arrangement) Accommodation was set up on the site of the former farm building. The fourth building in the area has a partially covered (rainproof) terrace, next to it there is a well-designed fireplace, where cooking (in a cauldron) and bacon frying is also provided. Near the houses there is an arboretum of almost three hectares, for guidance you can ask for a guide.
